摘要词汇是语言学习的重要组成部分,是学好语言的基础。词汇学习是英语学习中最难的一步,因此研究词汇学习策略和教学方法就显得相当重要,并正越来越受到初中英语老师的重视。本文主要讨论了初中英语词汇教学的重要性和存在的问题,语境的分类及语境在词汇教学中的功能,并着重分析了语境理论在初中英语词汇教学中的应用及原则。最后强调了运用语境理论指导初中英语词汇教学的重要性和必要性,并得出结论:词汇的教与学都离不开语境,语境理论对英语词汇教学有着举足轻重的作用,老师应该尽可能地创造适当的语境促进学生理解和运用词汇。14957

Abstract Vocabulary is an important part of language learning and the basis of learning language well. Vocabulary learning is the most difficult step of language learning. Therefore, it is significant to study the strategies of vocabulary learning and teaching which is getting more and more attention of junior middle school English teachers. The thesis mainly talks about the importance and problems of English vocabulary teaching in junior middle schools. The types of context and the functions of context in English vocabulary teaching are also explored. It also analyzes the application of context theory to English vocabulary teaching in junior middle schools and the principles of vocabulary teaching under the context theory. Finally, the thesis was concluded by strengthening the importance and necessity of using context theory in English vocabulary teaching in junior middle schools. And the writer drew a conclusion that vocabulary teaching and learning is inseparable from the context and context theory is crucial to vocabulary teaching. Teachers should try to create appropriate contexts to make students understand and apply the English vocabulary.

I. Introduction
English is a language that is widely used in many countries of the world. As we all know, vocabulary is very important to a language learning.Namely, only acquiring enough words can we learn a language well. The vocabulary to a language is the brick to a mansion. D.A.Wilkins(111)once said,“… while without grammar, very little can be conveyed, without vocabulary, nothing can be conveyed.” But vocabulary is one of the most difficult parts of language learning. In sum, vocabulary functions as the center of language learning, but at the same time, it is the toughest and the least unsuccessful part of language learning. Meanwhile, vocabulary teaching is a main task in the middle school English teaching. As the basic section in English teaching process, vocabulary teaching has attracted the attentions of teachers. The present situation also requires more focuses on vocabulary teaching. There is an obvious fact that the textbooks of middle school students have changed a lot. The content becomes richer and the volume of vocabulary is larger. The new curriculum standard makes more demand for English course and more emphasis on vocabulary.
