Title  Culture, Nature, and Humanity: An analysis of Buck’s transformation in The Call of the Wild
Abstract
Based on the realistic style and the naturalistic themes in The Call of the Wild, the study takes the changes of Buck as the starting point to analyze its helpless causes, social origins and possible solutions. In this paper, the transformation of Buck is pided into three phases: cultural adaptation, natural selection and sublimation of humanity. By sorting out all stages of Buck’s changes in key details, the paper is supposed to expose human crime and explore a new state of human living in harmony with nature. Also, the experience of Buck needs to be applied to people, aiming to explore the writer’s hidden reflection of cultural situation, ecological views and humanity.

1 Introduction
1.1 Jack London and The Call of the Wild
Jack London (1876-1916) was born and brought up in a poor family without fixed occupation and residence. He used to be a sailor in his early years and joined the Communist Party later. In 1897, he embarked on his trip of golden rush and this precious experience had provided him with great inspiration of writing. He has enjoyed distinguished reputation in the literary world as one of the greatest American realism writer in the 20th century for his great contribution in long and short novels, collection of essays and literature reports.

Jack London was good at describing spectacular objects, especially rough struggle and brutal natural selection, to demonstrate the meaning of life. His characterization was full of masculinity and his writing style was always straightforward and powerful. Wolves are overmatching under Jack London’s pen, which are also the most original and lifeful representatives in primary nature. Till now, his famous writings like The Call of the Wild(1903), The Sea Wolf(1904), White Fang(1906), Love of Life(1907) and Martin Eden(1909) have still won continuous universal praise all over the world.

The Call of the Wild is one of his most representative work. The novel tells a story about the long, arduous experience of a California dog named Buck, who was sent to Alaska, suffered from a variety of torture and overcame difficulties, then won the leadership of the wolf group. The whole subject of the book is about the transformation of Buck from dog to wolf, which is also a mixture of American realism and rugged naturalism. 论《野性的呼唤》中巴克的转变文明与自然下的人性:http://www.lwfree.cn/yingyu/20171206/17521.html
